In After Effects, apply the camera lens blur effect to an adjustment layer.
Right off the start you can keyframe animation the blur amount from 40 to 0 to create a cinematic rack focus. That’s pretty cool.
But be sure to take a look at the shape of your bokeh. By changing the shape dropdownyou can see how the out of focus elements will look like.
A great way to only apply an out of focus look to the edges of your work is by creating a solid and applying the gradient ramp effect.
Then set the gradient ramp to a radial ramp and making sure there a black gradient in the middle. Then prcompsoe this layer.
Now in the camera lens blur, set the blur map to the gradient ramp composition.
And that’s two ways to create a cinematic blur.
