Balmorhea State Park, Texas

On day 5 of our drive down to Mexico we stopped at Balmorhea State Park in the late afternoon to go swimming at the San Solomon Spring in Reeves County Texas. This unique state park boasts a massive 3.5 Million gallon swimming pool built around the natural spring. Supposedly it is the world's largest spring fed pool. The spring has a constant flow of freshwater and is up to 30 feet deep in spots. Temperatures are in the 70s.
Probably one of the most unique features about this "pool" is that it is home to fish and turtles. Despite its man made sides and diving boards, it is more like swimming in a pond with crystal clear waters than a chlorinated swimming pool.
Balmorhea really is not on the way to much of anything, but if you are ever in this part of the state of Texas it is more than worth a stop. There's no better way to cool off from the heat of the Texas sun!
