St. Nektarios Monastery, located on the beautiful island of Aegina in Greece, is a significant religious site and a popular pilgrimage destination. Saint Nektarios Monastery is one of the largest Greek Orthodox monasteries of Greece and one of the most visited sites in Aegina. The monastery was founded by Saint Nektarios, Bishop of Pentapolis, in the early 20th century (1904-1910). Agios Nektarios of Aegina (1846-1920), one of the best-known Greek Orthodox Saints, lived there for many years and was known for his miracles and healing abilities. Agios Nektarios was officially recognized as a saint in 1961 and he is also the Patron Saint of Aegina.
The monastery complex includes the impressive Holy Trinity Church, which is one of the largest churches in the Balkans. The church features two high bell towers and beautiful frescoes. The tomb and relics of Saint Nektarios are housed within the monastery. The old marble tomb where the Saint was buried after he died, housed by a little chapel, is an important pilgrimage site, visited every year by many visitors from all over the world which come to pray and seek blessings, as Saint Nektarios is believed to have performed numerous miracles.
The monastery celebrates the feast day of Saint Nektarios on November 9th, with special services and processions. The monastery is not only a place of spiritual significance but also offers stunning views of the surrounding landscape, making it a serene and inspiring destination.
