"The threat of the Holocaust is ever-existing. And I would say that when people do not understand that the threat is a real threat, that''s when they don''t act accordingly, and that''s when the right measures are not taken, and that''s when we see young generations growing up with xenophobia, nationalistic ideas, which become part of their ideology. And they''re actually very dangerous."

STORYLINE:
Representatives of Russia''s Jewish community, along with officials from various countries, gathered at Moscow''s Jewish Community Centre on Wednesday to mark Holocaust Remembrance Day.

Six (m) million Jews were killed by the Nazis and their collaborators during World War II, including one (m) million at the Auschwitz and Birkenau camps.
In Moscow, remembrance candles were lit in the Jewish Community Centre.
The Chief Rabbi of the Federation of Jewish Communities of Russia, Berl Lazar, as well as diplomats from foreign agencies and representatives of international organisations with missions in Moscow, attended the ceremony.
