Australia and Japan are looking to bolster security cooperation in the Pacific in the first face-to-face meeting in four years for the country's defence and foreign ministers. The meeting on Dec 9 comes after the US said it will boost its military forces in Australia and invite Japan to join in. Australia's defence minister has made it clear that he will be inviting Japan to more military exercises with Australia and the US.
