In this video I am sharing some specific points on how to increase leadership capacity. Like anything in life, to increase your skill set, it's a process. So stay tuned as I share these four key activities which will make an impact on your leadership development.
0:50 CONTINUE LEARNING. Leaders are learners. You must be willing to learn to level up your leadership knowledge. Top level leaders are always reading, listening to audio books, and watching videos to improve their skills. Leaders have an insatiable thirst for knowledge and continue to grow themselves. Because the grow themselves, they grow the people around them.
1:35 FOCUS ON HOW TO IMPROVE YOUR WEAKNESSES. Be deliberate in working on leadership areas that you are not good at. So often we avoid the things we aren’t good at, because it’s most difficult to improve.
2:30 LISTEN TO OTHERS. Listening is an effective skill for leadership and leadership development. Listening is relevant to for sales, for marketing, and for our general growth and well being. If you want to increase your capacity to lead. Listen to others, especially those people that you are supposed to be leading.
3:34 ASK GOOD QUESTIONS. Ask questions of your mentors, of those that work for you, and even of yourself. Self-talk is a powerful motivator and growth tool. So often, we may have heard someone say, or we may have been one to say things like “I don’t think I can do that.” It becomes an affirmation of failure. SO if you are struggling, re-frame the setup. Ask yourself a powerful question such as “HOW CAN I DO IT?”
Now if you only did one or two of the items on this list you will grow. If you use all four, you will become outstanding. You will grow and your leadership capacity will increase. As you do them more, you find that leading, making decisions, and growing other people becomes easier over time.
