Mortal Kombat 1 On SEGA Mega Drive (Genesis) Part 1(Scorpion Playthrough)
SCORPION: Journey and discover alongside the Shirai Ryu clan ninja known as ''Scorpion'' as he discovers that he is the chosen one who has entered the Mortal Kombat tournament seeking out the truth to his mysterious past and who is also bent on revenge against ''Sub-Zero''. It is believed that Scorpion's Lin Kuei uniform is purposely coloured yellow to mock the blue uniformed Lin Kuei ninja clan as opposed to his revenge against them and it is rumoured that he has come back from his damnation in hell as an already ''dead warrior''. Scorpion has not entered the tournament for fame or honour but to seek out answers to his past which is shrouded in total mystery? On the outside he appears to be an evil bad warrior who has no compassion for any human life but on the inside he is really a ''good guy'' at heart who does have a soft spot but hardly ever shows it, he is not truly evil unlike Shang Tsung or Sub-Zero, but he has a mission to unfold and will stop at nothing until he discovers what it is.
This is the original 16-bit Mortal Kombat game ported to the SEGA Mega Drive (Genesis) in 1993. Still to this day I find this game fascinating both in graphics and sound and I am proud to have grown up in the early 1990's with all these retro games. Mortal Kombat 1 is my favourite from the series. This game was the title that introduced ratings in video games due to it's violent content, back in the day there was alot of controversy about this game when Nintendo went as far as leaving the blood out of their Super Nintendo version which made the game's violent nature seem sour and poor. SEGA then had a step over Nintendo when they released this beast of a version with all the blood and violent content intact as there was no restrictions in SEGA's version which proved to sell a hell of alot more than the Super Nintendo version but apparently by the time the second Mortal Kombat title came out alot of fans speculate that SEGA's sequal was poor, slow and crappy compared to Nintendo's Mortal Kombat sequal so I suppose Nintendo got back at SEGA with Mortal Kombat II. As far as audio is concerned I think SEGA had the music and sound effects much better in all 3 Mortal Kombat titles than not only the Super Nintendo versions but also the Arcade originals from Midway. Matt Furniss and Shaun Hollingworth done a fantastic job with this soundtrack, the Mega Drive version soundtracks have more percussion and livelier rhythm sections than the ordinary Arcade and Super Nintendo versions making the music alot more exciting! (Only my personal opinion of course so don't gang up on me) I still remember playing this game down at the local super market and at shops as a kid always feeding the machine money due to me losing all the time damn!
