We are on a 6 day backcountry canoe trip in Killarney Provincial Park. The height of our trip includes a 2 night stay on Nellie Lake, a place I have dreamed of visiting since I was young. After years of being unsuccessful at booking the high demand sites on the lake, I am lucky to confirm a 2 night stay and work the other lakes in the area to extend the trip.
Our Journey to Nellie Lake begins in the town of Killarney. We take a short flight to scout our route by air, before returning and being boat shuttled to the East Channel for the night. We then travel northbound over a number of small portages to Helen lake where we camp on the east side and take in an incredible sunset. On the 3rd day we battle our way along a 2 km portage to Nellie Lake, the clearest lake in Killarney Provincial Park. We spend night 3 and 4 at the western site on the peninsula before making our way back to the North Channel and being picked up by our boat shuttle on day 6. This will be Pari’s longest backcountry trip.
