The Military Assistance Command, Vietnam, Studies and Observations Group – more commonly known as MACV-SOG – was activated on January 24, 1964. During its eight years in existence, the unit performed a variety of irregular warfare activities in North Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, and South Vietnam, including strategic reconnaissance, direct action, sabotage, personnel recovery, Psychological Operations, and counter-intelligence.
