Inbred mice have been extensively used in scientific research and the pharmaceutical industry. The clear and consistent genetic background of inbred mice offers advantages in experimental consistency and repeatability while presenting limitations in genetic diversity. The lack of genetic diversity is thought to be an important reason for the poor translatability between preclinical and clinical trial results. The natural population of wild mice is rich in genetic diversity, including variations such as single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNP), sequence deletions and duplications. Introducing chromosomes of wild mice into inbred mice provides new experimental animal resources for the study of complex traits.
