The Suzuki Motor Corporation has unveiled its first fully electric model, the e Vitara. This electric B-SUV will be produced at Suzuki's Gujarat plant in India starting in spring 2025, and is expected to be available in Germany from summer 2025.
The new Suzuki e Vitara is based on the eVX concept vehicle, first showcased at the Auto Expo in India in January 2023, and represents the brand's first fully electric model for the global market. The e Vitara follows the concept of the "Emotional Versatile Cruiser," featuring a design that highlights both advanced technologies and the vehicle’s presence. The fully electric powertrain, combined with the "ALLGRIP-e" all-wheel-drive system, ensures stability and safety even off paved roads. For the first time, Suzuki's specially designed "HEARTECT-e" platform, developed specifically for battery-electric models, is utilized in the e Vitara.
Design Combines Modernity with SUV Aesthetics The e Vitara embraces a "High-Tech & Adventure" design philosophy, merging the modern look of an electric vehicle with the ruggedness of an SUV. The distinctive design is accentuated by large wheels and a long 2,700 mm wheelbase. The design language continues inside, featuring an advanced display unit and a center console made with robust materials.
Fully Electric "eAxle" Drivetrain and Lithium Iron Phosphate Battery The efficient "eAxle" drive system in the new e Vitara integrates an electric motor and an inverter. The lithium iron phosphate battery comes in two options: 49 kWh and 61 kWh. Paired with the 49-kWh battery, the electric motor produces 144 hp (106 kW) and a maximum torque of 189 Nm. The larger battery variant is offered with either front-wheel or all-wheel drive. The front axle always features a 174 hp (128 kW) electric motor, while the all-wheel-drive version adds a rear motor with an additional 65 hp (48 kW), resulting in a combined system output of 183 hp (135 kW) and a maximum torque of 300 Nm.
"ALLGRIP-e" Electric All-Wheel Drive with Two Independent E-Axles Suzuki’s "ALLGRIP-e" system brings decades of all-wheel-drive expertise into the electric era. Specifically designed for electric drives, it uses two independent E-axles on the front and rear axles, allowing precise control and responsive handling. In Trail mode, developed specifically for off-road driving, the system prevents wheel spin and distributes torque to the opposite wheel, ensuring optimal traction at all times (LSD).
New "HEARTECT-e" Vehicle Platform The new "HEARTECT-e" platform, debuting in the e Vitara, is designed specifically for Suzuki's battery-electric models. It features a lightweight structure that protects the battery system located in the vehicle floor. Short overhangs provide a spacious interior.
“With the e Vitara, our first battery-electric vehicle, we have created a user-friendly electric model,” says Toshihiro Suzuki, President and Representative Director of Suzuki Motor Corporation. “The introduction of the e Vitara is an important milestone on our path to climate neutrality. We will gradually expand our range of battery-electric vehicles while continuing to offer various powertrains and mobility solutions tailored to the needs of our customers in different countries and regions.”
