I've owned the original D-Seed twice. I also SOLD it twice. The reason? It's a fantastic sounding delay, but it has the worst tap tempo of all time! You have to hit both footswitches at the same time in order to change the rate, which isn't too hard to do, but it just feels way too awkward for me.
So when I saw that Joyo had brought out a V2 of this pedal, with a redesigned tap tempo function, I was immediately excited to try it out!
The D-Seed II is also packing a few more delay modes and other features. The Lo-Fi and Filter modes are particularly cool, and pretty unique sounding. The Space mode is an ok-ish shimmer, but nothing to write home about. Mod adds some really nice modulation to the repeats, and Analog sounds pretty authentic to me.
I'm really not a fan of the Reverse mode, as it's way too subtle for my liking, and it doesn't even go full wet! Shocking.
That said, the Looper is astonishingly good. Easily one of the most intuitive and easy to use loopers I've ever come across. Which is especially impressive, seeing as it's a mode that's usually a last minute after-thought on most delay pedals.
Unfortunately, although the tap tempo is slightly better than on the original, it's still incredibly awkward to use. You have to hold the left footswitch down for 2 seconds to enter 'tap mode', and then you only have a 6 second window to tap your desired rate, before the pedal automatically returns to normal. Which sucks if you make a slight error the first time and need to make a quick adjustment, as you need to repeat the whole process.
This would make a great, dedicated looper pedal, but yet again - thanks to the tap tempo - I'm afraid the D-Seed II won't be sticking around...
