The Wilesco D2 is the smallest steam engine in my collection and the smallest steam engine that Wilesco currently makes. This clip shows the engine running on steam in 100 fps slow motion, allowing better appreciation of how the engine runs, and you can also see steam and droplets being ejected from the engine.
It's a beautiful little brass showpiece. Like many other small steam engines it has a single-acting oscillating cylinder. The cylinder bore is 5 mm, stroke is 7.5 mm. The flyweel is 30 mm in diameter, the boiler capacity is 35 cc of water and the entire thing is powered by a single beeswax candle. One particularly nice thing about this engine is the fact that the main shaft is mounting in tiny ball bearings for minimum friction.
Needless to say this engine develops very little power - barely enough to keep itself running - and there is little point in trying to connect it to any accessories.
