The Polish government plans to make it easier for Poles from eastern countries such as Kazakhstan or other Central Asian states to return to Poland and has prepared the repatriation bill. It would shift the most of the related financial burden to the state budget from local governments. Poland will also streamline the repatriation procedure. One of the driving forces behind the bill is Anna Maria Anders of the ruling Law and Justice party (PiS), and daughter of WWII figurehead General Władyslaw Anders, who won a seat in the Polish Senate on March 6th for a section of the north eastern Podlaskie region. "It's about time. Poland has been free for twenty six years and nobody has been able to do it. The bill as such is ready and we reckon there are about ten thousand people who would be involved in this" Anna Maria Anders told Radio Poland in a candid interview during which she also discussed her interest in politics and priorities as a senator.
