(22 Jun 2016) Russian President Vladimir Putin laid a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Moscow on Wednesday to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the Nazi invasion of the former Soviet Union.
War memories remain strong in Russia, where losses reached 27 million people, touching almost every family.
June 22 was declared the Day of Memory and Grief.
The German army was stopped at the fringes of Moscow in winter 1941 and the Soviet victory in 1943 at Stalingrad turned the tide of the war.
