(24 Feb 2019) Presidential candidate Ousmane Sonko, a 44-year-old former tax official, voted in Senegal's election on Sunday.
The potential wildcard candidate has galvanised young people with his promises of making government more accountable and transparent.
Speaking after casting his vote in the southern town of Ziguinchor, Sonko said he would pray for all those who lost their lives or were injured throughout the campaign, regardless of their political affiliation.
Senegalese voters are choosing whether to give President Macky Sall a second term in office as he faces four challengers.
Sall must win a majority in Sunday's vote in order to avoid a runoff.
His main competitors are Sonko and former prime minister Idrissa Seck.
