Day 3/100 days of Healthy Breakfasts. These delicious arepas make a great savoury breakfast and require a few low cost ingredients
INGREDIENTS 👩🏻🍳 (makes 2-3 arepas)
➡️ 160ml warm water
➡️ 1/2tsp salt
➡️ 100g PAN maize flour
➡️ olive oil
➡️ a few slices of sliced mozzarella cheese
Method
1. Preheat oven to 180oc
2. Combine the water and salt, until the salt has dissolved
3. Gradually add the maize flour and stir with your hands. Once you have the correct consistency where you can roll a dough which doesn’t stick to your hands, cover with a towel for 5 minutes
4. Split the mix into 2 or 3, and form into a disk.
5. Add your sliced mozzarella cheese, making sure it is fully covered
6. Heat a large pan, and once warm add oil. Add the arepas and cook for 2-3 minutes on each side until golden brown
7. Transfer to a lined tray and cook in the oven for a further 15-18 minutes
8. I served mine with sliced avocado and sriracha sauce 😋
