Kusu Island is located 5.6 kilometres to the south of the main island of Singapore and receives a considerable number of visitors every year.
In Chinese tradition, Kusu Island means Tortoise Island and was named after a magical tortoise which turned into an Island to save two shipwrecked sailors.
Kusu Island receives the largest number of visitors during the annual Kusu Pilgrimage event. It is held every year on the 9th lunar month, mostly occurring in September or November. Thousands of devotees attend this event in hopes of attaining peace, good health, happiness, prosperity and good luck. Note that overnight stays are not allowed on the island and the ferry charges are about $18 for adults and $12 for children.
The island is not big and in less than 20 minutes, you can walk from one end to the other.
