We have to remember that Spain concentrates 30% of the regasification capacities of the whole of Europe, 30%, and we cannot use them fully and completely as a consequence of having a bottleneck."

We are learning in the current crisis that one thing always helps: if we link, connect, network with each other as much as possible. Because that helps to ensure more stability for our societies and national economies, for citizens and for businesses."

STORYLINE:
Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez stressed the need to improve energy links between the Iberian peninsula and the rest of Europe.
"Spain is prepared to use all its capacity to help those countries that right now are suffering more from dependency on Russia and Putin's energy blackmail," he said after taking part in the German government two-day retreat in Meseberg.
He added that Spain has 30% of Europe's regasification capacity, but can't use it fully "as a consequence of having a bottleneck."
"That is what we have to resolve, whether it is via France or Italy, but Spain is prepared to show solidarity and to respond to the call of our dear friends and brother countries like Germany and others that are suffering from unacceptable blackmail," he said.
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz underlined his support for improving the connections of the European gas grids.
"Spain and Portugal will be countries that can produce a surplus and it would be important for these countries, but also for all of us, that this production capacity can still actually be used," he explained.
"The great task is to create a large European network," he said. "We help all of us when we do that."
