Crash in France kills 42
42 people have died in a collision between a bus and a truck in southwestern France. The two vehicles crashed near Bordeaux. The bus caught fire contributing to the high death toll. French President Francois Hollande who is visiting Greece said he is “deeply saddened by this tragedy.” The Interior Ministry says the bus was taking members of an elderly people’s club on a day trip.
Fatal shooting at Tennessee State University
Authorities say one person was killed and two others injured in a shooting at Tennessee State University in Nashville. Police tweeted that it happened during an an argument over a game of dice. In October there were several gun incidents at or near US schools. Three were fatal in Arizona, Texas, and Oregon.
Sweden trying to cope with influx of people
Sweden’s Migration Agency said on Thursday it expected up to 190 thousand migrants this year. Proportionally, Sweden, with a population of under 10 million, is expected to host more migrants than Germany, which is expecting more than 800,000 refugees. The Agency says to cope it will need an extra 8.4 billion dollars over the next two years. Sweden estimates it will face a shortage of accommodation for 25 to 45,000 migrants by the end of the year. They may have to spend the winter in heated tents.
Obama vetoes defence bill
President Barack Obama has vetoed a $612 billion defense policy bill. He disagreed with the Republican-controlled Congress, saying “Let’s do this right.”. The White House and Congress are at odds on federal, domestic and military spending. Obama also rejected the bill because it makes it harder to transfer suspected terror detainees out of Guantanamo Bay military prison in Cuba. Shutting it down was a campaign promise he is struggling to fulfil. Republicans have pledged to override the veto.
