ClimateStory Ep. 23 - Dr. Mya-Rose Craig
As our planet burns, a handful of beings are working to spread awareness of climate change and natural habitat destruction. There are no rules or conventions around who can or can't be a climate activist, and my guest today is certainly one of a kind.
At the time of recording, she was just 21 years old, but already had a lifetime of experiences and successes, that has earned her the wisdom, and insight of someone three times her age.
But as she points out in her autiobiography 'Birdgirl' the journey was not always an easy one.
Growing up as an ethnic minority came with its challenges, especially online where racists could hide behind not so clever Twitter profiles. Birdgirl also describes the incredibly difficult experience of having a mentally ill parent, and the challenges that came with that.
My guest today is Mya-Rose, an acclaimed author, ornithologist, and climate change activist. At the time of filming Mya-Rose was in her last year at Cambridge, and we met a few hours from Bristol to talk about birds, climate change, her complicated roots, and the issues facing our natural habitats.
If you’d like a free copy of Mya-Roses book, let me know in the comments what you love about her journey. This version of the conversation on Youtube is abridged, and the full hour long episode can be found on all major podcasting platforms.
