Speaker 1: Today in our 2017 Ford Explorer, we're going to be test fitting the Glacier Cable Snow Tire Chains, part number P-W-2-0-2-9-C. These chains are made from a low carbon steel, which makes them nice and durable. They also have these rollers at the top, which is going to . that coupled with the wider design, is going to help with effective starts and stops in light snow and light ice. That's really what these are designed for. If you're looking for chains for those heavy situations, like heavy snow, heavy ice I would actually upgrade to the square link design. These are SAE class S-chains, meaning they work well with vehicles with limited wheel well clearance.
These do come in a quantity of two. When you're finished using the chains, and they're dried off, have a convenient tote bag, here. You can place them inside, and in the vehicle, and they're ready for next time. They work with tire size 245-60-R18. Double-check with the size and the size of your chain to make sure everything is kosher.
Then we can move on.We went ahead and laid the chain out in front of the tire, like you see here. This is to make sure there's no kinks in the chain, or anything like that, before we put it over the tire. Our first step is we're going to pick this up, drape it over the tire and start making our connections. You want to make sure that the chain is facing the right way. By right way, you want to make sure where it wraps around the connection point, here, it's facing the outside.Next, we want to start making our connections behind the tire.
To make this a little bit easier on us, we're going to turn the tire all the way to the right. Next, we'll take our end with the catches, here, to our connection point. We'll go in as far as we can. Now we'll straighten the tire back out and start making our connections on the outside of the tire. Do the same thing with our catches, get it nice and tight, and then bring this back and connect it to the chain itself.
There we go.Now, you can see it's nice and snug, but there is a little bit of play in these chains once we have them installed. We're going to take our rubber tensioner, part number P-W-1-0-5, and attach it here. Now, it doesn't come with these chains, but it is recommended to be used with them. After that, you want to drive a brief distance to make sure the tension is working properly. Then you're going to be good to go.There you have it for the Glacier Cable Snow Tire Chains on our 2017 Ford Explorer.
