"When I Survey the Wondrous Cross" was written by the great English hymn writer, Isaac Watts in 1707.
The tune is 'Rockingham', adapted by Edward Miller from an earlier tune, 'Tunebridge', which had been published in Aaron Williams's 'A Second Supplement to Psalmody in Miniature' (c. 1780). Rockingham refers to Miller's friend and patron the Marquis of Rockingham, who served twice as Great Britain's prime minister.
It is performed here by St Michael's Singers.
