In February 1945, the famous Yalta Conference took place in Crimea on the shores of the Black Sea. As the second world war drew to a close, Roosevelt, Churchill and Stalin divided up Europe. 70 years later, Crimea is back at the centre of international attention. After its annexation by Moscow last March, tourism is suffering, the economy is floundering and the minority Tartars and supporters of a return to Ukraine face a bleak future. Once a symbol of power and peace for Russians, the seaside resort has become the focus of international tensions. Will Yalta now become the symbol of a new cold war?
