Finland and Denmark want the EU to stop issuing visas. Ever since the conflict began between Russia and Ukraine in February 2022 the EU has stopped all air travel to and from Russia. But citizens keep traveling with the alternative routes for their holidays or their work. Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania all have stopped visas to Russian citizens. Poland is another country advocating for complete visa ban on all Russian citizens. While the Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Pescov said last month that he hoped common sense prevailed in the EU but he didn't rule out in his own words "actions of an emotional nature" . On the other hand the German chancellor Olav Scolz is against such a total blanket visa ban to all Russian citizens because he believes it's Putin's war and he is totally against punishing the innocent Russian civilians. Germans believe that 5 to 10 of the Russian population is against the Kremlin and the war that is ongoing in Ukraine which means there are millions of dissatisfied people who could lead in establishing a new democratic regime in Russia. Last week in august Poland and Lithuania were very vocal about their desire to ban visas to Russian citizens completely and this week Finland and Denmark have come out with same proposals. But the German chancellor is clearly against such a proposal that targets the innocent civilians of Russia.
