Nationals MP Keith Pitt says the lowest cost pathway to the cheapest and most reliable electricity is “coal”.
AEMO Director Daniel Westerman has told a Senate Estimates hearing earlier today that there was no guarantee the government's renewable energy plans would lead to lower prices.
“The coal network gets completely denigrated by people like Chris Bowen and others and yet it is the most affordable, the most reliable mechanism to generate electricity in this country,” Mr Pitt said.
“If you want it to be zero emissions, the next one up the list is nuclear – it’s that easy.”
