As you may know, I‘m a big fan of that infamous hoover sound and all of its variants. The original sound originates from the Roland Alpha Juno 2 and can also be recreated with the Alpha Juno 1 and the MKS-50 (rack version of the Alpha Juno). There are several VST instruments trying to emulate the sound of these these synths. AudioRealism Redominator and U-He Diva are two of them (the latter being an emulation of several synth modules not just the Juno). I did a quick comparison of the original Roland with both software synths regarding their hoover capabilites. There are a few things making the sound so recognizeable. So I did three comparisons with the following sounds:
1. A modulated PWM saw (cause this waveform is what distinguishes the Alpha Juno from other synths)
2. The PWM saw plus modulated pulse.
3. Sound 2 plus the chorus.
Of course there are more things to a hoover, eg. pitch modulation, filtering etc. but I wanted to make the comparison as straightforward as possible. Be aware that this is not a scientific comparison and the parameter values are just matches approximately.
