Is Zoroastrianism making a comeback? Seems like a tall order, as according to official statistics the Zoroastrian population in Iran is less than 0.1% of the modern Iranian population of 90 million. However, due to the aforementioned importance of the Zoroastrian religion throughout Iranian history and it's link to Persian identity and culture, many Iranians in the present in both Iran and the diaspora have begun to show a heightened interest in the religion of their ancestors, spurred on by discontent with the IRGC and mullahs of the Islamic Republic. Since the 1990's there has been a surge in Iranian nationalism and hence the religion of Zoroastrianism, which many Iranian nationalists may view as a bulwark to the Islamization of the nation. The impact of this revival is heavily debated in the modern day, with some online pollsters such as GAMAAN finding that a (comparatively) massive chunk of the Iranian population (5-8%) identified Zoroastrianism as their religion, which would translate to millions of people. Is this true? Probably not, as it is just an online poll with only a few tens of thousands of respondents, but this shows that the interest in Zoroastrianism in the country is not a complete fabrication at the very least.
