This 37-carat emerald was part of a brooch commissioned from Cartier in 1960 by Prince Aga Khan for his bride, Nina Dyer.
On 1 May 1969, Christie’s held its inaugural Magnificent Jewels sale at Le Richemond Hotel in Geneva. ‘Christie’s Geneva had opened its doors just six months before the sale,’ says Max Fawcett, head of Jewellery at Christie’s in Geneva.
Among the top lots offered was the emerald and diamond Cartier brooch. The centrepiece, a 37-carat square emerald, was bordered by 20 marquise-shaped diamonds with an approximate total weight of 12.04 carats.
On 12 November 2024, the Aga Khan Emerald will be offered in the Magnificent Jewels sale at Christie’s in Geneva for the second time in just over 55 years.
Estimate: CHF5,200,000-6,800,000 | US$6,000,000-8,000,000
