Memorizing the shapes is not enough to actually get good at soloing on the pentatonic scales on guitar. I use this method with all my guitar students to truly master the pentatonic shapes and it's just six steps: Memorize the roots, favourite bends, blue notes, arpeggios, chord tones, and common licks. If you do this on every pentatonic shape, you can truly master the scale.
