Oral Pathology Treatment in Alexandria LA: Walter | Alexandria Oral Surgery - [ Ссылка ]
Oral pathology refers to any diseases or pathological processes of the oral and facial region. The mouth is necessary for many different functions, such as eating, drinking, speaking, and breathing, and this versatility in use exposes your mouth to higher risks of infection and other problems. Additionally, the mouth can show symptoms that reflect conditions developing in the rest of the body. When dental professionals find irregularities in the lining or shape of your mouth, they may send you to an oral surgeon for a biopsy or second opinion. This is because oral surgeons are experts at identifying and treating diseases of the mouth, jaw, and face. Our oral surgeons — Dr. Fred Smith, Dr. P. Steven Arnold Jr., and Dr. David Carlton at Alexandria Oral Surgery & Dental Implant Center — have years of experience evaluating and treating infections, diseases, cancers, and other oral conditions.
After receiving his undergraduate degree in Biology, Dr. Arnold gained a B.S. in Physical Therapy from the University of Mississippi (Ole Miss) in 1993. During his time working as a physical therapist, Dr. Arnold helped rehabilitate TMJ and jaw disorder patients, many of whom also worked with oral surgeons and dental professionals. These cases sparked his interest in dentistry, and he returned to the University of Mississippi to earn his dental degree, which he completed in 2002. After dental school he decided to continue his training in order to treat a wider variety of more complex cases. He attended the University of Louisville School of Medicine in Kentucky, where he earned a Medical Doctorate in 2005 and completed his oral and maxillofacial surgery residency in 2008.
"I had gone to my dentist and was complaining of some problems, and he was able to find that something unusual was going on with my jaw. So, he sent me to an oral surgeon. Well, after that I came to see Dr. Arnold, and he took a look, and he discovered that I was having necrosis of the jaw bone. Well, the jaw bone deteriorates — it actually dies. I was having intense pain that went on for weeks — so painful that I could hardly talk. I could hardly even drink water. And he was able to reach in there with his tool, and he found that it was loose, so he pulled it out. And I had instant relief, and I've had no problem since. So, that's when I got my life back. He's not only been a good doctor, but he's prayed with us and just encouraged us so much. We couldn't be more pleased."
