Day 3: Tidy by Emily Gravett - 25/03/2020
After listening to the story, have a go at the following activities:
1) Go through the book again and see if you can hear the rhyming words throughout the story. Remember, rhyming words are usually two or more words that sound the same. Can you find any? Your grown-up can help you if you want to write some down to look at the letters in the word. Are there any similar letters you can see?
2) How tidy is your bedroom? Go to your room and count how many things you tidy up. For example, how many things you pick up off the floor, how many toys you put away, how many clothes you put in your wardrobe, how many bits of rubbish you put in the bin, etc. If your bedroom is spotless, try another room!
3) Pete thought he was doing the right thing by tidying up so much, but then he realised he’d gone too far and made a mistake. Can you think about a time you made a mistake and what you did to make it right? Tell your grown-up the story.
4) Can you make a litter poster like the ones on the bins in Pete’s forest? Why is it important for us to tidy up after ourselves when we’re outside? Is it good to litter? Hang your poster in the garden so everybody knows they need to take care of the environment! What words could you have on your poster? Can you use your phonics to sound them out? (e.g. put litter in bin)
5) Can you remember what recycling means? Ask your grown-up to show you where they keep their recycling and talk about the different things we can recycle. For example, plastic, paper, etc. Why is it important to recycle? Can you help your grown-up the next time there’s some rubbish? What can be recycled?
