President Rodrigo Roa Duterte joined members of the Muslim community in celebrating the first Mindanao Hariraya Eid’l Fit’r 2016 held in Davao City.
In his speech, President Duterte assured the Moro brothers and sisters that he will once again bring peace in Mindanao, but they should give him a chance to “perfect an agreement”.
"It will not come overnight. Probably, it will be something about two to three years from now,” President Duterte said.
Though pointing out that he would talk first with the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) and the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF), the President added that his administration would create a framework for federalism, of which he mentioned might solve the violence in the island of Mindanao.
“Let us talk before doing anything that would spill a violence that is not good,” he said.
Eid’l Fit’r, also known as the “Festival of Breaking the Fast”, is a religious holiday of Muslims worldwide, marking the end of Ramadan (Holy Month of Fasting).
