Come take a look through Queensberry Children’s Centre, an Early Childhood Education Service of the University of Melbourne. Located in Carlton the former Queensberry Street Primary School was built in the 1880’s and designed by Henry Bastow.
The building is significant in the history and development of Victoria Schools and is registered with the Historic Buildings Council. The University purchased the building in 1993 and in 1995 Queensberry Children’s Centre was established to support the University’s vision to be ‘one of the finest universities in the world’ through the provision of quality early childhood care and education services for the children of University and wider community.
Queensberry Children’s Centre provides a warm and caring educational environment where children are affirmed as individuals and competent learners. Our Centre boasts play based learning programs to meet children’s developmental needs and support their social, emotional and physical wellbeing from ages 3months to 5 years through holistic approaches.
At Queensberry Children’s Centre, we believe it is important to acknowledge and respect the Wurundjeri land and its traditional custodians; thus, embedding Indigenous culture, learning and understanding on a daily basis. We advocate for children’s rights and their rights to a healthy planet by practicing and building understanding about sustainability.
We value families as first teachers and recognise secure and positive attachments are key to building trusting and reciprocal relationships with children and their family. Through an inclusive curriculum that embraces and celebrates diversity, our team of educators endeavour to build understanding and respect for all.
