The beach of Gomati is nestled in a cove, 20 km east of Myrina, the capital of Lemnos and a couple of km from Katalakos village. This fine beach has the longest sandy dunes in Greece and crystalline water. The beach is accessed through a dirt road and its only a ten minute drive. The beach is quite long and is rarely crowded. There is a beach bar, umbrellas and sunbeds. The sand is soft ideal for the children.
The Thick Sands of Lemnos or Sands of Lemnos also referred to as the Desert of Lemnos , are dunes , i.e. hills of fine sand. The sand dunes spread over an area of about 70 acres. Pahis Ammoudies are located in the north of the island of Limnos , 3 kilometers above the village of Katalakkos and near Gomati beach.
This unexpected desert testifies to the presence of the sea in the area during the Paleolithic era.
