Starting with a short introduction to the educational principles of the STEM@School pedagogy, the presenters illustrate how these principles were implemented in STEM@School modules. The key idea is augmenting the relevance of STEM by paying a lot of attention to the mutual integration of the different STEM disciplines.In a dynamic format the webinar will offer schools a roadmap to implement STEM@School and thus challenge students from the 9th-11th grade for STEM disciplines. The presenters will highlight some of the scientific results of the STEM@School project. Finally they will discuss the prerequisites and possible constraints for a successful implementation of the STEM@School.
About the presenters:
Prof. Wim Dehaene is coordinator of the SBO-project STEM@School, which is a large-scale research project, funded by the Flemish Government.
Mrs Gerda Somers graduated in Mathematics in 1981 and has been a teacher in Mathematics since. She has been actively involved in projects focusing on innovative didactical methods and on the exchange of learning materials (e.g. ENIS, MELT,...).
Mrs. Gerda Somers was involved in the STEM@School project from the very beginning as a co-developper of the learning materials and as the STEM coordinator at Heilig Hart Instituut Heverlee.
