In this video I put together a prototype of the CNC machine I’ve been working on, with all the design tweaks and innovations. I’ve incorporated hard limits to the Motor Plates, which can be adjusted to provide a surface to square the X axis to the Y axis, and pivoting mounts for the Z and X Axis, so the machine can be trammed without having to dismantle and awkwardly shim hard to reach places.
I’ve also made this version of the machine with drop in hexagonal nut holes, so the plates can be cut from other material such as Birch Ply, Valchromat or Acetal, without the need to cut threads.
While PLA is probably not the right material to make a CNC machine, and PETG would be better, I want to see if I can get at least a couple cuttings from this machine.
Early release of Plates STL files and parts list will be on my Patreons, and later the SLT files will be made available on the Openbuilds blog that has accompanied this project.
