When you journey from Beijing to Ulaanbaatar in Mongolia you will cross the border at the Chinese town of Erlian. At this point, following passport inspections, the train will be split into several parts. All parts of the train will then be moved into a large train shed. Each carriage is split from the next and is then hoisted up on pneumatic arms. The wheel chasis's are disconnected and new chasis's with a slightly narrower wheel base are moved into place so that the trains can run on the track in Mongolia and Russia. All this while all the passengers remain on the train!
