The safety of learners in many schools across Limpopo province continues to be in jeopardy as the Department of Education grapples with the eradication of pit latrines. Over 500 schools in the province still use pit toilets seven years after the tragic death of 4-year-old Michael Komape who drowned in a pit toilet in Chibeng outside Polokwane.
Five more similar incidents have been reported in the last five years.
