October 22 is being observed as a Black Day, a reminder of Pakistan invading the Kashmir Valley on this day 73 years ago, much in contrast to October 27 that the separatists have observed as a Black Day to mark landing of Indian forces in the Valley.

Lt Gen PS Mehta, a second-generation army officer, who has his parentage in Shogapora (Badgam) and Singhpora (Baramulla) of Jammu and Kashmir, has been promoted to the rank of Lt General in Western Command, Chandimandir. Lt Gen Mehta enjoys the distinction of being the first Sikh officer from the Kashmir valley to have risen to the rank of Lt General.
