A good friend of ours recently dropped a very well-loved rocking chair off at our house for an attempted repair. I say attempted because the chair was literally holding on by a thread, and when I took off the crest rail the entire thing fell to pieces. She bought the chair 30 years ago at an antique store estimating it was already 50 years old when she bought it.
It's fun fixing such an old piece of furniture, and it's a welcome change to the precision of building something new. I enjoy figuring out how the original craftsman built the piece and doing all the problem-solving to get the thing apart and back together again.
