Within South Africa, a grouping of hundreds of tall pillars which mysteriously jet out from the ground in a vertical manner are in fact a remnant of a Jurassic era mass extinction event. This is the story of the Valley of Desolation, which has a connection to a time long ago when much of South Africa was coated in more than a kilometer thick of black volcanic rock and active lava flows were ongoing.
