Conversion, the work of the Holy Spirit, alters our attitude towards God and enables us to know Him better. You can't select your birthday; it's predetermined. Similarly, you can't choose your spiritual birthday, the start of your spiritual life. Young people often misunderstand conversion. Some seek a Damascus Road experience, forgetting that even Paul needed three years in the desert before starting his ministry. Others, raised in the church, assume they're converted. Some commit to Christ, but when they don't find their character miraculously changed, they conclude they weren't converted and await the next emotional appeal. Just as one can't eat or breathe until they're born, one can't lead a devotional life until they're spiritually born. Regardless of your background, you must be born again to see the kingdom of heaven. And you can know whether or not you have been converted.
