In our final week here in Colombia we wanted to once again showcase a mix of retail and local cultural. We have noticed a number of these discount stores (named Dollarcity) which we recently learned is owned by the Canadian brand by the name of Dollarama.
Then we visited another amazing mall and noticed one of the larger pharmacy (farmacia in Spanish) by the name of Cruz Verde. We then learned this brand was acquired by the Mexican conglomerate (by the name of Femsa) a few years ago. The one element which jumped out to us was the size of these stores (as they typically average less than 1,000 square feet) which are much smaller than we see in North America.
Lastly, we toured a very cool local coffee farm called La Casa Grande Coffee Hacienda. This place was very eye opening (literally) as they showed us how the entire process works starting w/planting the seed, picking the beans, drying process all the way to pouring it into our cup. Thanks much Valentina and Daniella for an awesome day!
The Retail Nomad is now off to Guatemala for the month of March!!
