Finally, we have some huge cruise updates to report! This past week, we learned exactly when cruising will restart. In a series of announcements on Friday, we learned that cruise ships from two major cruise brands will restart this summer in the Bahamas and the Caribbean. The announcements about the return of cruising for U.S. residents started a few weeks back. Crystal Cruises was the first to announce that it would resume cruising in the Bahamas in July. This past Friday, Celebrity Cruises announced plans to restart cruising from St. Maarten on June 5th. The newly updated Celebrity Millennium will be offering these cruises to vaccinated adult cruise guests and children under 18 with proof of a negative COVID-19 test.
Later that morning, its sister brand, Royal Caribbean, also revealed its plans. Royal Caribbean will cruise again starting June 12th. The cruise line will deploy Adventure of the Seas to the Bahamas to offer 7-night Bahamas cruises. These brand new itineraries include two back to back days at the cruise line's private island Perfect Day at CocoCay, as well as stops in Cozumel, Mexico and Grand Bahama Island. These cruises will also only be open to fully vaccinated adults and children with proof of a negative COVID test.
Still, other cruise lines made major cruise news this week too. Virgin Voyages became the first ocean cruise line to announced its plan to require a COVID vaccine on U.S. based cruises. At this point in time, Virgin is the only brand that has reported this requirement for departures from the United States. The brand is an adults only cruise line, so it is easier for them to issue this vaccine requirement to cruise. Though, it is anticipated that other major cruise lines will make similar announcements soon.
In the UK, other cruise lines, including P&O Cruises and even Princess Cruises, have revealed a series of domestic cruises for UK citizens. These initial sailings are only open to UK cruisers that have been fully vaccinated as well. Though, MSC Cruises also announced UK summer sailings without a vaccine requirement.
The river cruise line, American Queen Steamboat Company, will be requiring vaccines for guests starting on July 1st as well.
So, reviewing all of the latest cruise news, it appears that the COVID vaccine will likely be a requirement to cruise here in the United States. Even Royal Caribbean's CEO indicated that such a requirement for cruising to restart is the smart thing to do at this time.
There have been no official cruise news or announcements from the two other major cruise lines, Carnival Cruise Line or Norwegian Cruise Line, so stay tuned.
Will you still cruise with a requirement for a COVID-19 vaccine? Let us know in the comments section below if you are looking forward to these new sailings now that we know when cruising will restart.
