This video is about our family adventure of hunting for gemstones and finding and getting to our recently-discovered rhodonite mine on our new claim near Hill 60. It involves atv-ing in the snow, prospecting, and mining beautiful gem rhodonite pieces to over 100 pounds! Perfect for those lapidary enthusiasts to see a new source of Vancouver Island rhodonite.
We were inspired to get started after watching the entertaining Dan Hurd videos. This is just our first video so we know it could be improved. We plan on making another video at this site with more focus on extraction at the gem quality rhodonite mining site as well as future videos about our other fantastic gemstone sites in British Columbia. These include amethyst, thundereggs, and jasper. We plan to keep the gemstone mining as green as we can - essentially hand-mining or small scale mining as a family business.
Please note that all soils churned up by the atv in this video were along a road or trail - no natural surfaces were damaged. Also note that the water that flows along and erodes the old road does not connect directly to fish-bearing streams. Trees growing along the road will be cut down when the road is re-opened for a second harvest.
