In this video I’ll show you how I made still life photo’s with a painterly effect, using texture overlays. I explain the whole process in the subtitles, available in several different languages.
We had a withered bouquet of flowers that looked a bit sad. So I thought it would be a nice picture when I make a still life from it. I put the vase on a wood board and layed some dead hydrangea flowers and some dead leaves that we had in the garden, next to it.
I blocked the windows partially to control the natural light. Because I set my ISO as low as possible, I used a tripod to eliminate motion blur.
The 50mm prime lens worked very well for this. It’s one of the cheapest lenses and a must have in each camera bag.
I wanted to give it an old, painterly feel, without make it look like an actual painting, so I put some texture overlays on top in the edit.
It’s a great idea to try at home when you’re bored.
