The blue fruit aka Major Jenkins Fan Palm Fruit 🌴💙

This unusual fruit from the Livistona jenkensiana palm (มะก๊อ in Thai or Ma-Kaaw) grows throughout the southern Himalayas, from northern India to northern Cambodia. It’s a delicacy in native communities – softened with salt and eaten with fried fish on thick rice-dough flat breads.

We were lucky enough to get a box of these blue fruits shipped to our Airbnb in Bangkok from a friend in Northern Thailand so we could try 😋

They reminded me somewhat of olives – very savory, rich-tasting, and herbal. Richard swore it tasted like draft beer with sausage spices, and that his Swedish father would love it 💙
