So you want an iPhone but can't afford it's $1000+ price tag. And you're wondering if you can find a cheaper version? Perhaps you've heard that China is the global epicenter of fake cell phones.
Here is a primer on China's fake phones - what to look for and how to avoid getting scammed.

Rumor has it that over 90% of the phones leaving China are counterfeits - and that as many as 1 in 5 smartphones worldwide are fake. Before you buy a used phone off of Craiglist, watch the video and check your phone. For example:
1) (Apple) the logo must be nearly flush, not glued on. It should NOT have a mirror finish.
2) The box it comes in is white on top. The lettering on the back should be very close to the bottom of the phone.
3) The camera must be almost flush with the phone.
4) The power button turns on with an audible click.
5) The charge percentage must be white. No other color.
6) Open the App Store on an iPhone. If it takes you to Google Play then the guts are Android.

Your best bet is to borrow an identical phone to the one you want to buy and check them over side by side. Look for any discrepancies, no matter how slight. Turn both on and make sure they function equally well.

You won't find this footage anywhere else... why? I was chased down and arrested by 8 policemen within 15 minutes of showing up at the market. The place is open to the public but the Chinese government does not want foreign media to document what's going on. Do not enter any Chinese fake phone market carrying a camera.
