PHARMACIST Fi shares a fascinating medicine problem story, plus some Top Tips on ways to try to prevent that problem from happening.
In this episode, PHARMACIST Fi tells the story of Mr G, who did not tell the doctor that he wasn't taking the blood pressure medicine the doctor prescribed for him... so because his blood pressure did not get lower, his doctor prescribed him a second blood pressure medicine... then increased the dose of one of the blood pressure medicines... then one day when Mr G finally decided to take his blood pressure medication, the dose of the 2 medicines (including the recently increased dose of one of them) did not just reduce his blood pressure to a healthy level, but it reduced it further - into the dangerously low level. Thankfully, Mr G was lucky that Mrs G was able to call an ambulance in time to get him to hospital care - so he survived - but some other people who have accidentally taken too much blood pressure medication have had terrible accidents or even died - so Mr G is lucky to be alive.
Mr G now knows how important it is to tell the doctor if you are unsure whether you want to take a medicine - so that the doctor can help you weigh up the possible benefits and risks of the medicine versus any risks to your medical condition if you do not take the medicine - so then you and the doctor can decide together about what medicines you do or do not want to take. Mr G has also discovered how important it is to tell the doctor - not only which medications you are taking, but also which medications you are not taking.
Here is a link PHARMACIST Fi mentioned in this video - to download the World Health Organization PDF called '5 Moments for Medication Safety', which is a great set of questions you are very welcome to ask your doctor (about your medical conditions and medicines) so that, by knowing more, you can then be more comfortable to tell your doctor how you feel about the different options and make decisions together - as an equal partner in your health care - with your doctor:

Here is a link to PHARMACIST Fi's video about why you need a CMI for each medicine you take; read in each medicine's CMI the section about what to do if you ever accidentally take too much of that medicine (because this may be different for different medicines, since some medicines are much more dangerous in overdose than others):
